WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLDS FAIR
(London Premiere)

+ WALL #4 + WITCHES MIDNIGHT

Opening Gala WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD'S FAIR (London Premiere)

Dir: Jane Schoenbrun. Starring: Anna Cobb, Michael J Rogers, Holly Anne Frink. USA (2021) 86mins

We've all been there: sat staring at Youtube at 2am wondering how the hell you ended up watching what you're watching; and beyond the men building swimming pools out of mud and recipe debunking videos, sometimes there's a true glimpse into existential hell hiding out there. After all, on the internet, you can be anyone right?

Casey sits alone in her attic bedroom, and decides to take the World’s Fair Challenge, an online role-playing horror game, and embrace the uncertainty it promises and documents the changes that may or may not be happening to her as she plays. As she begins to lose herself between dream and reality, a mysterious figure reaches out, claiming to see something special in her uploads.

At time's both tender and terrifying, WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD'S FAIR is a bold and prosperous statement from a new voice in the genre; a truly unique slice of celluloid that grapples with the anxiety of growing up tethered to something as fleeting and uncaring as the internet unlike anything else before it. As Nietzsche said: "When you vlog into the abyss long enough, the abyss vlogs back at you".
